Non, on retrouve bien Cassandra!

Three Prisoner chained escape from a penal colony situated in the deep South of the 30s. These three characters are: Ulysses Everett McGill, Delmar and Pete. The first one: hero of the film, the second very simple and the last big grouser. They run away to find one " be saying " treasure belonging to Everett. So they leave in a last great journey, meeting multiple characters and avoiding(fleeing) a mysterious Shériff. Their epic in a context of big crisis finished by finding their home(foyer).

The summary etant was made, we can pass in an essay(attempt, try) of comment. This comment will be in three parts(parties): the Vision of America and the images of the South, then the mythological dimension of the film and finally " the best " my opinion.

At first The Vision of America in a particular context. Indeed the film corresponds to the 30s, in a context of crisis (rapellons the crisis of 1929 and its stock-exchange crac) and of big depression. Geographically, the action(share) is situated in the South of the United States, the "Deep South". This impression(printing) of the South is given by several élements: the religious fanaticism, the force of the superstitions, the racism, the places, the music, and, the economic and political crisis.

So during all the film the subject of the religion and the superstitions is very present. Indeed Delmar is going be baptized in Mississipi to be persuaded to be washed all its faults; there is also a hitch-hiker, Tommy Johnson, who assures(insures) to have sold his soul to the devil to know how to play the guitar; and finally the fulfillment at the end of the prediction of the beginning of the film... On the contrary Everett who blasphemes all the time and does not want to believe that his friend is transformed into frog.

The rascisme tiend also an important part, because the old South is known for its racist side. For example, our three escapees meet a celebration of Klu-Klux-Klan which wants to sacrifice their guitarist.

Places return the context of the even more true South. All reflect the time(period), but let us take three examples: the farm of the cousin and the roads which lead(drive) him(it) there; the radio first and only developed media; and finally villages with their immense streets very wide and animated(stimulated).

All the film is accompanied with a characteristic music of the old South: the Blues. Songs are conveyed by the resembling radio in the country called the "bluegrass". They are characteristic of the folklore of the South. Three escapees to create so the group of the " tempered bottoms " and have a big success which résoud all the intrigues of the film at the end.

To finish, the historic aspect of the thirties shows the South in the middle of a crisis and depression. From an economic point of view with the big poverty is shown, for example, by the farm of the cousin at the beginning. When three accomplices are there, the host does not have more than some invariée meat to be eaten. Later to gain(win) a little money(silver) he is going to denounce(cancel) his cousin in escape(mare)! The depression of these years comes along with political references. So we follow the election campaign between the former(ancient) governor Grandpa O' Daniell and the reformiste: Homer Stokes who wants to sweep(annihilate) the country (but who is also the leader of the KKK). This secondary intrigue brings to the film an autenticité.

From a technical point of view, the images were turned yellow to give old man's aspect to this film.

Then let us see the mythological dimension of this film. Director does not hide from it and say it from the beginning, this film is an adaptation, very free, of Homère's Odyssey. Indeed this legendary aspect meets itself in the name of the characters and their role in the history(story). So we find Everett, who of his(her) first first name apelle Ulysses. He so becomes the hero of the history(story) very attached to his presentation, cunning and cunning as in the tradition. He searches for his beloved Penny (Pénélope in the Odyssey) and also finds his seven daughters (strange, we find the number seven!). We recognize him(it) thanks to the fire(light) refleté in the glasses, and thanks to the words when he tells to be above the laws. Homère's name is also rataché to somebody: the reformist candidate: Homer Stokes.

All these allusions to the antiquity(antique), and this fastening with a myth, give a look of mystery even fantastic in the film.

Finally here is my opinion on this film.

The brother Cohen made a film which I shall consider as nice. Nice because he(it) goes out of the common, because he(it) does not claim to be able to change the face of the world or to make think about existenciels problems, because finally he(it) knew how to amuse me! Indeed of the beginning at the end the history(story) we remain hung on(collided) on the future of three fugitives. Going of events to events this film presents a big éventaille of qualities.

First quality, it is an intelligent film. Intelligent in the sense(direction) where he(it) mixes(involves) mythology, reality (with reference to characters who really existed) with comic. They knew how to escape the macabre film, the social film, the fantastic film, the film of penal colony to make a mixture of everything to obtain a big film! Of more the humor is for the meeting, bringing the cheerfulness! Original in the personal history(story), character are rapidemment charming, and this is emplifié by the tremendous game(set, play) of the actors! The pleasure rises throughout the headway(overhang) of the intrigues. Finally I shall give a special mention to the " tempered Bottoms " which eventually resolve everything there cjhantant if it was always so simple!!

Three Prisoner connected escape from a bagne located in the major South of the Thirties. These three characters are: Ulysses Everett McGill, Delmar and Pete. He leaves to research his beloved Penny (Pénélope in the Odyssey) and finds also his seven daughters (strange, one finds the number seven!). During does its adventure, near to an Odyssey, Ulysses meet the viel black Homme which tells him its future, but it does not grow to it... a coincidence? Not, one finds Cassandra well! More tards the three escaped prisoners are attracted by sirens! Then they is opposite a baorgne which sells Bibles... one will recognize the Cyclops! Still another allusion: devil. It is incarnated by the shériff which pursues our three escaped prisoners. One recognizes it thanks to the fire refleté in his glasses, and thanks to his words when he says being to the top of the laws. Finally here my opinion on this film.

The Cohen brothers made a film which I will describe as sympathetic nerve.

Sympathetic nerve because it leaves the ordinary one, because it does not claim to change the face of the world or to make reflect on problems existenciels, because finally it knew to divert me! Original in their personal history, the character are rapidemment attaching, and this is emplifié by the formidable play of the actors! The pleasure goes up throughout the projection of the intrigues. Finally I will give a special mention to the "soaked Bottoms" which finish by all solving while hantant... if it were always also simple!!
