Voici la fin de ma présentation sur la chanson "Pride". Je ne suis pas sûr du tout de mon analyse. J'ai fait au mieux.

Song analysis

Some parts of the song are difficult to understand. The difficulty of the song comes from the meaning of the sentences that are full of historical references. Sometimes these references aren't very clear.

Moreover, the grammar is not standard English. For example: "one man come" instead of "one man comes"...."one man he resist"  instead of "one man resists". The reason is perhaps to sound better.

Another difficulty of the song is the expression "one man". It may refer to several different people, it isn't sometimes very clear. This is why there may be several interpretations.

The first verse is about a man who comes and goes. Without further explanations, this verse seems to speak about Jesus. Jesus came to save mankind and was crucified.

In the chorus, "what more in the name of love" means that there isn't a bigger sacrifice by giving his life for the name of love.

The second verse is more difficult to understand. The barbed wire fence refers to war. I don't know any man who was barbed with a wire fence (ça sonne faux/bizarre).

It might be a metaphor. In this case there can be several explanations. For example, it might refer to Jesus and his crown of thorns.

The ''man washed on an empty beach'' might refer to the march to Dandi from Ghandi. This march was a nonviolent protest that inspired Martin Luther King. It might also refer to Jesus.

The last sentence of the verse “One man betrayed with a kiss” refers clearly to Judas identifying Jesus to roman soldiers by giving him a kiss.

The third verse speaks clearly about Martin Luther King who was assassinated on 4 April. Bono made a mistake because King was shot in the evening and not in the morning. The band admitted the error. 

The last sentence of the verse is "they could not take your pride". The word “pride” is also the title of the song. In current language, this word has two main meanings: a bad sense or a good sense.

1. The belief that you are better or more important than other people

2. The feeling of pleasure and satisfaction that you get because you (or people connected with you) have done or got something good. 

In this song, the word "pride" refers clearly to the second definition. It means that Martin Luther King can be proud of what he has done. The sentence “They could not take your pride” means that nobody can humiliate King's memory, even if the killer of Martin Luther King took King's life, even if he had enemies, people didn’t take his value.

In conclusion, the song is a tribute to Martin Luther King. It speaks about martyrs, peace and love. There are several references to Martin Luther King but also to Jesus Christ. Pride is described as a universal concept of understanding and respect for humanity.
