NanaBac2014 Posté(e) le 10 juin 2014 Signaler Posté(e) le 10 juin 2014 I'm going to speak about the notion "Spaces and exchanges". I will use 2 texts and 1 picture to illustrate that notion. The documents are mainly about immigration to the United-States. Immigration is the movement of people between countries. The United-States is a diverse and contrasted country due to immigration. Immigrants brought a lot to this country, they have enriched American culture, they brought new religions, new traditions, um... new ideas, new types of foods... They also received a lot from the United-States, the most of them had a better life there. There are two types of immigrants : legal immigrants and illegal immigrants. But first of all, what's the definition of the notion "spaces and exchanges" : An exchange is literally when we give in return for something received, so I will demonstrate immigration is the perfect example of these exchanges in spaces. Well, my first document will be an extract of "A boy's journey" written by Seymour Rechtzeit and published in 2002. It's an autobiography. My second document will be "Dear Mom and Dad", it's an extract of the documentary "5 girls" released in 2001 and written by Haibinh Nguyen. And my third document will be a picture of the Statue of Liberty. When we say "exchanges" we immediately think about trade, but it's not the only way to exchange, for instance um... people exchange information when they talk. Immigrants brings their culture when they come to a new country and learn others, it's an exchange. In the United-States there's a real "melting-pot", we can find all sorts of people and origins : Asian, Hispanic, Mexican, Italian, Chinese... there are also cities like "China Town" or "The little Italy". There's people of everywhere around the world, it's a real heterogeneous society. Seymour Rechtzeit was one of them. He leaved Poland with his father in 1920 and came to America to find more opportunities. He began a new life in the U.S and became a child-star, a singer. He also met the president Calvin Coolidge and some years later he met his wife. He lived the perfect American Dream ! He was lucky. Some of the immigrants had a better life, but not everybody, some of them were excluded from the rest of the society and were not accepted. Haibinh Nguyen also immigrated to the United-States. She was Vietnamese and became Vietnamese-American. In her letter, she said she missed her home, her family, um... Vietnamese foods, Vietnamese culture... and felt excluded from the others because of their American culture. Immigrants have enriched American culture but it was difficult for everybody to accept each other. Finally, the first thing immigrants saw when they entered the United States through Ellis Island, like Seymour Rechtzeit, was the Statue of Liberty. The Statue of Liberty is in New York City and was inaugurated in 1886, it's a symbolizing of freedom as the right to freedom of movement. To conclude.. immigration is the perfect example of exchanges in spaces. Immigration leads to an exchange of cultural values and knowledge in different spaces, different countries. Bonjour, Etant scolarisée au CNED, je n'ai pu être aidée dans la réalisation de mes oraux. J'aimerai, si possible, être corrigée au mieux. Merci beaucoup, c'est important.
