This text is more than a fictional narrative, it also allows us to understand the working of charities in Victorian England. Firstly there is an important element to observe, in fact we see that orphans are not left to their lives but they are collected and make them live in charities. But they are abused in these institutions, they eat very little, have no consideration and work enormously. They are exploited by the administration that runs these charities. In addition, they can be sold or abandoned at the slightest behavior consider as "intolerable"! We can therefore be using this text to understand the working of charities in Victorian England.

We have previously described the plight of orphans in Victorian England where they were not considered, exploited and suffered from lack of food. Let us compare today’s treatment of the poor and the women to what it was like, in England and here, some one hundred years ago

First, women a century ago were not allowed to vote, were dominated by their father and husband, by men in general because England as France were patriarchal societies. Gradually intellectuals women like George Sand or later Simone de Beauvoir have expressed their desire for independence and freedom. We can say that today women have a life much more comfortable there hundred years. But inequalities remain particularly regarding wages or female representation in politics. It is therefore important that women and intellectuals such as Elizabeth Badinter continue to protest for these rights !Now let's look at the plight of the poor for a century until today. A century ago they were not considered, today, all citizens including the poor have rights (right to housing, minimum wage ...). However the number of poor is still very important and many are homeless. This shows that the issue of solidarity with the poor is in France as in England far from resolved.

In conclusion, we can say that the condition of the poor and women has evolved over the past century, however, inequalities remain important and English as French societies are still very unequal.

Merci de votre aide !

Merci à JRB et à Yveslouis, nos supermen anglophones !<Tant qu'à faire, utilise le pluriel anglais. ;)
