Bonjour à tous, j'avais un expresion écrite a faire sur le thème: "Les écrits sont indispensable à l'identité d'une civilisation"; Enfin je devais exprimer une réflexion sur ce Sujet.

In the extract of the novel « Fahrenheit 451 »; We have studied in the unit seven, a group of people were ready to risk their lives to save books from the flames because they think that the books represent thei civilization. I'm agree with that however this is not true in all cultures. Indeed, it is useful to distinguish two types of societys: Society's described as « Moderns » ans others desribed as « Traditionnals ».

Modern societys have always been built around writings and later books. We musn't forget that until the XIX° century, reading was reserved for an elit, mostly clergy. But every modern thought and « freedom of thinking » that we know today were written in Books. We'll take the example of music to illustrate this idea. Found in such cultures, first partitions in Antiquity, after that religious songs written by christian monks, then it is the music printed, then published thousands of copies and finally, today by digital sheet music. It is clear that the transmission of the ideas, culture and the identity of a civilization though by writings and books.

We'll see the place of books in traditionnal societies. In traditionnal societies, transmittance of ideas, culture and music does not necessarily pass though by the scriptures. Indeed, in African Soctietys, for example Massaïs; The songs are transmitted since centuries, not by writings but by oral transmission from generation to generation.

We could talk about this for hours, but we see though these examples that a civilization is created and developed by and with writings but it is not essential and biding to it !
